The Yale Club of Houston coordinates and
participates in a number of charitable programs that support the Houston
community and Yale's presence in Houston. Programs include:
Community Service Summer
Fellowship
Since 1999, the Yale Club of Houston has
sponsored a summer fellowship program with the Community Family Center
(formerly the Chicano Family Center). The club raises funds and
coordinates living arrangements for an AYA selected student to spend the
summer working with the selected organization. The work with the
Community Family Center has focused on better preparing high school
sophomores and juniors for college.
High School Book Awards
At selected local schools, the Yale Club of
Houston supplies the Yale edition of Shakespeare's complete works as an
academic award to outstanding high school juniors.
Admit Visits
The Yale Club of Houston, in conjunction with
the Alumni Schools Committee, gathers information on admitted students
who would likely benefit from an April visit to New Haven, but lack the
financial means to go. The Club's tax-deductible, non-profit
contributions may be used to to fund admit visits depending on funds
availability. Grants are awarded through the Alumni Schools
Committee headed by Joe and Claire Greenberg. |
