TOPIC: "More than a Philadelphia Story: How Pennsylvania Shaped the Federal Constitution Before and After the Summer of 1787"

April 1, 2006 — The Second Annual Inter-Ivy League Tennis Tournament
LOCATION: Levy Tennis Pavilion @ University of Pennsylvania, 3130 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA. Sponsored by the Philadelphia Alumni Clubs of Penn, Wharton, Yale, Princeton and Dartmouth, this turned out to be a great event! The competition was fierce but most importantly, a lot of fun was had by all. Great job!!

March 26, 2006 — Arthur Miller's The Crucible
LOCATION: People's Light and Theatre Company, 39 Conestoga Road, Malvern, PA. Members of the Yale Club of Philadelphia gathered together to see a local production of one of Arthur Miller's classics. The production was followed by a private dinner where two PLTC staff members lead a private symposium for the Yale group: Crucible Director David Bradley, Yale '88 and Actor Benjamin Lloyd, Yale '85, who plays Reverend John Hale. It was a fantastic event!

March 16, 2006 — Inter-Ivy Young Alumni Happy Hour and Ballroom Dance Fundraiser
This happy hour and fundraising event was a huge success!! Proceeds from this party benefited Ballroom Dance for Life Program, a new project that is teaching ballroom dance and health lessons to Philadelphia Public School students. The program is in its initial stages and the support received will allow expansion of this exciting program to other schools. Happy hour was at The Dark Horse Pub and the fundraiser was held at Society Hill Dance Academy.

March 10, 2006 — Ballet: STRAVINSKY'S "Firebird" and "Franklin Court"
At the pre-ballet dinner, held at Upstares at Varalli, the Music Director of the Pennsylvania Ballet, Bea Affron (Yale '89), talked informally about these performances and the challenge of putting together a ballet season and its music.  We had an incredible turnout and the ballet was sensational! LOCATION: Pennsylvania Ballet, Academy of Music.

March 1, 2006 — Fourth Annual Inter-School Alumni Wine Tasting
LOCATION: The Pyramid Club, 1735 Market Street, Mellon Bank Building, 52nd Floor, Philadelphia, PA. Alumni from various schools throughout the Philadelphia area gathered together at one of the most prestigious venues in town. A sommelier was present to describe the various selection of wines.

February 15, 2006 — Claire Nee Nelson, our supported Graduate Research Fellow, spoke about The Development of Attitudes Towards Race in Major American Cities, including Philadelphia. Claire, who is finishing her History Ph.D. at Yale, talked about "the economic, political, and social phenomena animating moments of racial formation in San Francisco, New Orleans, and New York." As part of her discussion, she described in more detail her work on the cultural anthropologist Franz Boas, who is the cornerstone of her chapters on New York, and whose papers are at the American Philosophical Society where she did archival research under the auspices of the YCOP fellowship this past summer.

February 4, 2006 — Yale-Penn Basketball Game
LOCATION: The Palestra, Philadelphia, PA. Members of the Yale Club of Philadelphia met for a pre-game dinner at The New Deck Tavern, located at 3408 Sansom Street, and then headed over to The Palestra for a game preview with Yale Men's Basketball Coach, James Jones. Unfortunately, Penn defeated Yale 74-52 before an enthusiastic crowd of 6,108.

January 6, 2006 — Yale Glee Club
LOCATION: The Church of the Redeemer, Pennswood and New Gulph Roads, Bryn Mawr, PA. Members of the Yale Club of Philadelphia gathered to listen to the Yale Glee Club perform. This event was a huge success!!
