For the first time in over 20 years, Yale’s fabled Whiffenpoofs –the oldest and best-known collegiate a capella singing group in America– entertained in Las Vegas. The group arrived for a whirlwind visit starting their tour to Mexico and Rio de Janeiro. With warmups on KNRP’s State of Nevada and a school outreach concert on Friday, plus a fundraiser appearance at the Palms on Saturday night, the Whiffs came to the Adelson Educational Campus in Summerlin on Sunday, March 7, 2010, to present a sparkling afternoon of music and comedy. Living up to their well-earned reputation, they delighted the audience with jazz standards, traditional ballads, a bit of vaudeville, and plenty of energy and good cheer.

The crowd of over 150 alumni, friends, music lovers, and Las Vegas choral students loved every minute. Also in attendance were Sheldon and Dr. Miriam Adelson, whose namesake school (an impressive campus with a beautiful auditorium) graciously hosted the concert. Special thanks to them, to the Head of School Paul Schiffman who helped coordinate the concert, and to all the volunteers who brought us for a moment back to the Tables Down at Mory’s . . . .
