On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, crisp like a mild New England fall day, about 40 members, guests and family members met in the Great Room of Queensridge Place to watch the critically acclaimed documentary about The Game from 1969.  A funny thing happened: Welcoming remarks were made by co-presidents Monty Simus and Cynthia Mun; officers were introduced; conversations started; soon the video was forgotten.  It was perfect. The movie played in the background, watched in occasional glimpses, while conviviality carried the day.  A triumph for Yale!
Special thanks to Guy Penini ’00 who hosted the event in grand style with an open bar and a sumptuous array of hot and cold hors d’oevres and desserts.  It was an impressive display of hospitality that helped make everyone feel welcome.  It also sets a high standard to match in future.

Mike Storms, co-chair of the Club’s “Day of Service” committee, announced opportunities to help sort donated food for Nevada’s largest food bank, and to assist with socialization of tropical bird’s at the Gilcrease Nature Conversancy.  Sign up sheets were distributed. Followup email messages will confirm participation for the May 15th Day of Service.

A common refrain in conversation was, “I’ve been waiting for a Yale event in Las Vegas, and I’m so happy something is now happening.”  The relaunch of the Club clearly is popular.  We hope to ride this momentum for the upcoming events announced to the group:  Feb Club Party at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel (February 14th), the Whiffs at the Adelson School (March 7), Professor Ian Ayres at Boyd Law School (April 22) and the Day of Service (May 15).  It’s an ambitious schedule, befitting the newly invigorated Yale Club of Nevada.

Many thanks to all who helped arrange this fun afternoon, and to those who attended and made it special with their camaraderie and good cheer.
