Kumho Asiana String Quartet

The Kumho Asiana String Quartet was founded in May 1990 for the purpose of broadening the popularity of chamber music in Korea. The Quartet is supported by the Kumho Group, a leading Korean corporation. Since its foundation the Quartet has given numerous concerts and special performances both in Korea and abroad, including a recital held in Ottawa for the state visit of President Kim Dae-jung to Canada in 1999. Since its first international tour in 1995, the Quartet has also performed extensively in the United States, Poland, Norway, Australia, Japan, Belgium, Spain, Turkey, Austria and the United Kingdom. The group has enjoyed a warm response from critics and audiences alike.

In addition to its performances, the Quartet pursues and active educational program, visiting schools throughout Korea to introduce young audiences to the joy of chamber music. The group also participates in charity concerts to help raise funds for underprivileged groups.

The Kumho Asiana String Quartet released its first compact disc in 1996 on the Delos International label. The disc's program consists of Haydn's Quartet in C, Op. 76, No. 3 ("Emperor"); Ravel's Quartet in F; and Dvorak's String Quartet No. 6 in F, Op. 96 ("American").
