On May 5th, 2001, President Levin will host a day-long celebration of Yale's 300th — and the Yale-China Association's 100th — in Hong Kong, to which alumni from all over Asia are invited. The Tercentennial Celebration provides a fitting opportunity to honor Yale's long history of connections with Asia, as well as to highlight a new series of collaborations.
Yale 300 in Asia will feature a symposium in which the audience is invited to join Yale faculty, graduates and affiliates, from both Asia and New Haven, in a discussion of issues at the political and economic intersections of cultures East and West. The day will also provide a luncheon at which Yale's new Center for Globalization will be officially launched, and end with a gala black-tie ball that promises to be the birthday party of the century.
The Venue
All Yale 300 in Asia events on Saturday 5 May will be held in the Conrad International Hotel, 88 Queensway, Central, Hong Kong. The Conrad is a 5-star hotel at Pacific Place, the largest hotel/office/shopping mall complex on Hong Kong Island. Pacific Place is just above Admiralty Station on the MTR (subway)'s Island Line.
A cocktail party to kick off the weekend will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday 4 May in the American Club, Two Exchange Square, Central. Exchange Square is one block away from the Star Ferry on the Hong Kong side of Victoria Harbour. The weekend will conclude with an optional Sunday brunch followed by an informal lecture and walking tour to showcase major buildings in the heart of Hong Kong designed by Yale architects.
