President's Letter

I look forward to working with you as the Yale Club of Georgia's 2007-2008 president! We have over 1700 Yale alumni here in Georgia, and the following programs and club events to help you meet these fellow GA Yalies as well as help our community:

Alumni Schools Commitee: Over 300 Georgia high school students apply to Yale each year, and we interview almost every one of them. Besides helping identify and encourage promising Georgia students to apply to Yale, we ensure each applicant receives an interview, and need your help to accomplish these tasks. For more information on our Outreach and Recruitment program, email Alex Woollcott, ES 80, at awoollcott@thompsonhine.com, and for becoming an interviewer, Steve Parker, TD '63, at steve@hailes.com.

Summer Intern Program: Our intern is a current Yale student who works at an Atlanta non-profit. We raise money to support our intern, and seek a Club member to provide the intern with housing.

Events to meet fellow alumni:We have several ongoing programs, which are described in more detail below, and will host a Yale Professor to speak to the club this spring.

Please fill out the contact form including your dues, which support these activities, and do not forget to put down your email address as it is by far the most convenient way for us to contact you about future events. If you have any suggestions for the Club, please do not hesitate to contact me at the email listed below. I look forward to meeting you!

Boola boola!

If you have read and enjoyed any of the works listed above, consider joining the Yale Book Club. We are a diverse bunch who enjoy reading and discussing various topics, or using the works read as a springboard to discussions on almost any topic under the sun. We look for members of any class or school affiliation. And yes, spouses who did not attend Yale are not only welcome, but positively encouraged to come. We meet approximately every 6 weeks in the homes of our members, and those who attend vote to select the next works to be read. You need not volunteer to host, to attend, nor feel you should attend every meeting. To find out more information, including the precise schedule, please contact Erinn Goldman ('97) (ErinnGoldman@comcast.net)

Bulldogs and Pups (Yale Young Family Club)

Unable to attend Yale Club events because they are not child-friendly? Baby-sitter cancel at the last moment? The Yale Young Family Club is the solution to your problems. You can interact with other parents while your children play. We meet during the warmer months for outdoor play at local parks (including what we hope will become our annual outing to the Atlanta Botanical Garden). Children play while adults picnic and visit. We will try to hold some indoor meetings during the colder months. Members may volunteer to host a play group. We strive to hold approximately one outing every six weeks. Active members have children aged from 3 months to 10 years. The parents' ages are a tightly kept secret...To be placed on the group's e-mail list or for more information, please contact Darryl Peterkin, JE '88, DPeterkin@southerneducation.org.

YCOG Alumni Career Network

YCOG's Alumni Career Network allows Yale students and alumni to receive career advice and mentoring from other alumni in the state. We will sort willing alumni by field, and then will match that list to either current students who are investigating career choices, alumni moving to the area who need assistance with a job search, or alumni who are changing jobs or careers. Your only obligation as a volunteer is to sit down with those referred by the network to provide advice or mentoring. This is one of the most valuable things we as alumni can do to make the Yale experience valuable. If you are interested in or would be willing to talk with students or alumni who are interested in your field of expertise, email Lee Nelson, PC '80 (lnelson@crtproperties.com).
