The Yale Club of Singapore had another successful Bulldogs in Conversation event on Thursday, 26 May 2011.
Over 15 alumni, friends from the DUAL community, and others met at the Asia Boardroom of the Hong Leong Building to hear a presentation/discussion entitled "What it takes to make a Banker an effective CEO/Leader" from SOM alumni Saw Boo Guan of China Yuchai International and Abby Adlerman of Russell Reynolds Associates. Boo Guan and Abby shared their impressive thoughts and experience on those qualities and traits of successful CEOs and leaders; on what abilities should young would-be executives focus on developing as they choose companies, functions and jobs; and what skills should working executives or even pre-existing C-suite executives hone as they strive to take their game to the next level.
Thanks to Shawn Tan for organizing, and to Boo Guan and Abby for their wonderful insights.
About the Speakers

In addition, Abby chairs the Executive Directors, Researchers and Associates Committee for the firm. Abby spent the previous five years serving as the Area Manager for the San Francisco office and the last two years concurrently leading the Private Equity Practice in the Americas. Previously, she was the Chief Executive Officer of a PE-backed company for five years and spent 10 years before that at Hambrecht & Quist (now J.P. Morgan) in various management capacities, including Head of the Private Placements practice.
At this year's Yale Day of Service in Singapore, a group of fifteen alumni, family and friends participated in a mangrove coastal cleanup at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. In just a few hours along the coastline, the group bagged and removed a whopping 150 kilograms of plastic, styrofoam, and other trash. Though the courageous group was warned in advance to watch out for cobras and vipers along the trail and the beach, not a single one of our members turned back. In the end, everyone had a good time (and some, a good sweat), while benefiting the environment and finding renewed awareness of mankind's impact on the ecosystem.
