Community Service Summer Fellow
The Yale Club of Southern California sponsors the Community Service Summer Fellow, a current student works who volunteers at a LA community service organization for the summer. Our Summer Fellows typically work with children at Las Familias, located in Downtown Los Angeles. The YCSC has found alumni to generously allow the summer fellow to stay in their homes.

Interested students can find out more about this program through Yale University at the Community Service Fellowships web site. Alumni interested in helping volunteer their homes should contact Darcy Pollack at darcykp@earthlink.net.

Summer 2004
Our Summer 2004 Fellow is Santiago Iturbe '05.  He describes himself in this email sent before he arrived:

Santiago Iturbe, '05
“Once again, I can’t thank you enough for hosting me.  I’m very excited to live in LA for a couple of months.   Some info about my self:  I’m a 21 year old junior. I’m a pretty active guy.  I love to go work out, run, play golf, snowboard, scuba dive, play soccer and tennis.  I like to go out dancing.  I’m originally from Mexico City but now my parents reside in San Antonio, TX.  I plan to spend a good amount of my time there preparing for the LSAT, researching Law Schools and Fellowship programs, and brainstorming for a novel I’m planning on writing (with maybe trying to learn to surf on the weekends).  I love to eat anything…I’m zero picky, even though I tend to eat very healthily.  Oh…and one of the most important things to me.  I’m huge into music, both listening and playing the guitar.  I gave up varsity sports in college to spend more time with my band.  We just recently split up, but we are planning on starting another one soon.  We are a fusion of rock and jazz that’s a lot of fun for live shows.  I also play classical guitar.  I hope that’s enough.  I look forward to hearing back from you and meeting you.”

If you'd like to show Santiago your favorite LA spots, feel free to email him.
