"Politics and
Entertainment: How the Worlds of Celebrity and Entertainment
Influence the Political Landscape" |
| |
Sponsored by the
Yale in Hollywood Committee of the Yale Club of
Southern California |

A dynamic discussion
of how the power of celebrity is wielded to achieve political
goals. With Arnold Schwarzenegger as Governor of California, we
have a stark example of someone dramatically affecting the
political scene based substantially on the power of his fame.
There are organizations founded solely to affect political
opinion through entertainment programming and content, as well
as groups whose identities in the public's mind are tied
directly to whatever celebrity is endorsing their agenda. Can we
even have a political movement anymore in this country,
independent of the power of celebrity? How does the
celebrity-driven media influence what we believe and value,
along with our decisions at the ballot
box? |
