The Yale Club of Southern California always sends one or two Board members as delegates to every assembly. AYA Assembly LXV
Report Entitled "In After Years," the focus of AYA Assembly 65 was somewhat different from those past, in that it spotlighted what students do when they become… alumni. Of course the customary general university updates were on the program as well. Assembly Chair Michael Madison '83 kicked off the program in Battell Chapel on the morning of November 17, 2005. Michael informed the gathering that the focus of this Assembly would be to give perspective on the challenges and opportunities for students, as well as a glimpse at what students are doing 5-10 years past Yale. Michael reminded us that the mission of Yale College has been to provide a liberal arts education, not vocational training, since 1828. At the same time, the graduate and especially professional schools have more targeted missions, thus the perspectives we would hear from those schools would be different than that of the college. Report
Nearly 500 delegates from the around the world met to attend Assembly LXIII of the Association of Yale Alumni November 20-22, 2003. The assembly focused on two topics this year; "Yale's Museums, Libraries, and Collections: Treasures for Teaching and Research", and a Leadership conference for Alumni Volunteers. The first half of the conference focused on the many wonderful pieces held within the universities collections that truly set the university apart from so many of its peers. On your next visit back to Yale, don't forget to take some time and visit the British Art Center, the Peabody Museum, the Beinecke Rare Book Library, or many of the other sources that you were too busy to recognize while you were there! The second half of the conference focused on helping to provide additional tools and ideas to the delegates to improve the activities and interaction of Yale Alumni through their respective alumni affiliations. The Yale Club of Southern California was invited to speak with three other alumni groups on how we use our respective web sites to work and communicate with all our members. Many other clubs came away very excited and filled with new ideas. Likewise, the conference provided an opportunity for us to exchange ideas and develop even new and more wonderful programs that will enrich our club's experience and growth. |
