Alums, Pop Culture, Hollywood
July 16, 2005

SAN DIEGO - Los Angeles alums headed down to San Diego for Comic-Con.  This annual convention celebrates pop culture, comics, and movies. Hollywood attendees included Natalie Portman, Kate Beckinsale, Scott Speedman, Eva Mendes, Bryan Singer, and more.

It was also a great year for Yalies representing at the Comic-Con:

  • Allan Heinberg (The OC) is writing "Young Avengers." He spoke on several panels this weekend.

  • Beau Bauman is producer and co-writer of the movie "Cry Wolf." He spoke on the Cry Wolf panel Sunday morningCry Wolf opens Sept 23, starring Jon Bon Jovi and several young actors.

  • Greg Pak wrote the popular X-Men Phoenix EndSong mini-series (unfortunately, Greg did not attend the Con - he's in NY

We repeated our success last year in getting a group of Yalies to meet on the main exhibit hall floor.  This is a feat itself considering the huge number of booths, costumed superheroes, and others walking the show floor.  We met to trade interests in writing, comics, and filmmaking.

Allan Heinberg writes on the Young Avengers comic book, about a young group of teens who take on the Avengers' namesake.

Baumans's Cry Wolf is about High school kids who create a ruse involving a serial killer named "The Wolf." It's a game that turns terrifyingly real. (more)

Greg Pak's Endsong stars the popular X-Men, and their arch-nemesis Phoenix.

Gene Simmons of Kiss films a reality TV show episode from the show floor.
