Yoo advises aspiring TV writers:
Live life, then write

August 2, 2004

HOLLYWOOD HILLS - Yalie Paula Yoo shared her experiences writing TV drama with a group of aspiring alum writers and TV fans.  Yoo has written on the West Wing and Tru Calling.

Yoo described how she got into writing.  She studied journalism, and worked as a reporter for several years.  She eventually moved to People magazine, covering entertainment stories.  She also plays the violin.

In writing TV dramas, she is able to draw upon her varied experiences.  For example, she was chosen as a West Wing writer because her breadth of experiences would help flesh out the story lines.  She wrote a script for Angel featuring a woman who becomes possessed by playing her violin.   She advises aspiring writers to live life first so they have something to write about.

Yoo continues to write for TV drama, and is currently working on a children's book.
