Yale Jeopardy! in LA
November 12, 2003

CULVER CITY - About 2 dozen Yalies got a welcome shout out from Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek during the LA tapings of Jeopardy at the Sony Pictures Studios lot. The local tapings were held in conjunction with the Jeopardy!'s annual College Championship week airing Nov 10-21. These episodes were filmed in October at Yale with Yale mini-sets, including mini-Harkness Hall and HGS. It's the first time Jeopardy! has ever filmed at one of the Ivy League Universities. We think they made the best choice!

Here's what some of our local attendees said about the LA taping:

"It was really impressive watching what it takes to put together an episode of Jeopardy!. Being in the studio audience brought a new level of enjoyment."
- Nicholas Genesta
"The Jeopardy! taping was terrific - a fun time to meet other fellow young alumns and to see the recording studio. The set looks much smaller in person than on television."
- Michelle Brady
"Making it to a taping of Jeopardy has been a small dream of mine. Though that dream involved my heroic triumph in Final Jeopardy, the opportunity to see Alex Trebek up close and see the show live was great. still wonder, however, what happened to the mustache?"
- Josh Stein

Alex Trebek says: "It's always exciting watching today's young people play JEOPARDY!. Not only do the college students aim for individual honors, but they really compete for their schools as well. The JEOPARDY! College Championship is always rich in spirit and school pride."

"Yale is one of the most highly regarded educational institutions in the world," says Harry Friedman, Executive Producer of JEOPARDY! "This will be the first Ivy League campus to host the JEOPARDY! College Championship -- it's a winning combination! We know the students at Yale and the city of New Haven will make this a truly memorable event," continued Friedman.

"It is truly a pleasure to welcome JEOPARDY! to the Elm City," Mayor John DeStefano said. "It is a great opportunity to highlight all that New Haven has to offer -- great restaurants and shops, Yale University, world-class museums and theatres, and our wonderful neighborhoods and residents. I know the folks from the show will enjoy our terrific City."
