Fans celebrate The O.C. with writer Allan Heinberg
2004 February 24

HOLLYWOOD HILLS - Nearly 30 alums and friends celebrated the success of the hit TV show The O.C. with an orange-themed chat with Yalie Allan Heinberg, a writer and co-executive producer for the show.

Allan described his career path from Yale to writing on the O.C. He started out as an actor, appearing on Broadway and in several other cities. He also wrote plays and books and operas lyrics. He eventually joined the writing staff of NBC’s The Naked Truth for its third season. He soon realized he preferred writing hour-long dramas over half-hour comedies - "I'm a story guy not a joke guy", he said. He then served as writer and producer on Fox's Party of Five for its final two seasons, as a writer and supervising producer of HBO's Sex and the City (Seasons 3 and 4), and as a writer and consulting producer of the WB's Gilmore Girls. He is currently a writer and co-executive producer of FOX's The O.C.

Allan said that in writing characters for the show, it has helped to draw from his own life experiences to create real three-dimensional characters. This true-to-life characterization has helped fuel The O.C.'s growing success beyond its initial core teen audience, to older women and men. The O.C. recently landed the cover of Entertainment Weekly and is one of Fox's top shows. Bands want to be featured in the show to get exposure.

Thanks to attendees who contributed "something orange to eat or drink" for our orange potluck. And thanks to Allan for sharing with us!
