Massive rainstorms could not stop our 20th reunion - they only provided
additional entertainment as we watched waiters wielding folded chairs
against the roof of the tent to dislodge huge puddles. All our events
went on with great enthusiasm despite the weather.
Friday evening we gathered in Beinecke for a cocktail party, and
everyone started to look vaguely familiar. After dinner in Silliman,
our more talented classmates entertained at a coffeehouse. At night we
struggled into bunkbeds again, a little worried at the thought that Yale
considers those at their 25th reunion to be too old to make it into the
top bunk (will we really be that decrepit in five more years?).
Saturday those with children trekked to Payne Whitney for a carnival,
followed by a concert in which our Whiffs caused a stir by adding a
female singer (who filled out the harmony beautifully). Finally, we
gathered for our class dinner filled with wine, song, nostalgia, laughs,
and important class announcements which were impossible to hear in the
rain - we’re all just going to have to read about them in the Yale
Alumni Magazine.
Sunday the dining halls outdid themselves with a splendid buffet in
Commons. Then we were on our way.
Speaking personally, I could not believe how moved I was to reconnect
with old friends and with the scene of so much growing up. Tremendous
thanks for a job well done go to Ron Wheeler, Jeff Manning, and the
entire reunion committee.
