Robert McCreary Stephenson, 73, of Naples, FL and Williamsburg, VA passed away on October 10, 2011.
Mr. Stephenson was born in Louisville, KY on May 15, 1938. He grew up in Ashland, KY and graduated from Phillips Academy Andover in Andover, MA in 1957. He received his B.S. in Physics from Yale University in 1961. After graduation, Mr. Stephenson went to work for the IBM Corporation, where he remained his entire career.
Mr. Stephenson is survived by his wife of 46 years, Martha English LaFon Stephenson; his daughter, Elizabeth Hunt Stephenson Notman and her husband William Bennett Notman, Jr. of Richmond, VA; and his son, Robert McCreary Stephenson III of Chicago, IL. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Olivia English Notman, Hugh Preston Notman, Audrey Snow Notman, Madison McCreary Stephenson and Jack Rosser Stephenson; and two brothers, James G. Stephenson and wife Katy of Naples, FL and Dan T. Stephenson and wife Barbara of Hampton, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rebecca Talbott Stephenson Jenks and Robert McCreary Stephenson; and his stepfather, Dan Hugh Jenks III.
A funeral mass will be held at St. William Church, 750 Seagate Drive, Naples, FL , at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2011. The family will receive guests at the Naples Yacht Club following the service. A private burial will take place in Williamsburg, VA .
