Class of 1959 holds Mini Reunion in Charleston

More than sixty Class of ’59 classmates and their guests enjoyed a mini reunion in Charleston, South Carolina, April 4-7, 2002. The weekend included tours of historic Charleston and visits to the Mulberry and South Mulberry Plantations, hosted by Parker Gilbert ’56; a gala evening at Middleton Place Plantation, whose President is Charles Duell ’60; and a visit to Yeoman’s Hall, a club started by Yale alumni in the 1920’s. The Charleston hosts were classmate Charles Simonds ’59 and his wife Josephine. In addition, the Class held a unique “Ambassadors Symposium,” featuring former Ambassador to India, Dick Celeste ’59, former Ambassador to Colombia and Chile, Curt Kamman ’59, and former Ambassador to the Helsinki Accords and to several of the new Eastern European republics, Jack Maresca ’59. The moderator was Bob Semple ’59, the Pulitzer Prize winning Chief Editorial Writer of the New York Times.
