 Yale College Class of 1959
December 2011
Dear Members of Yale ’59 and Friends,
The response to our Save the Date letter for the Boston Mini Reunion May 29 – June 1, 2012 has been very enthusiastic. We are encouraging you to respond to this registration letter promptly so we can get a handle on costs. The more attendees, the lower the fixed costs and the greater the possibility of including something extra like a catered lunch.
The final head count for the Class of ’55 Boston Mini in September was 162, many more than expected. Those late to register found their special room rate was gone and had to pay several hundred dollars more for the regular room rate. So please register early and reserve your room now. Contact the Millennium Bostonian Hotel directly at (617) 557-3650 or (800) 343-0922 and ask for the Yale Class of 1959 room block. For a limited number of rooms, the hotel will extend the special rate of $199 to the weekend before and after.
Here are the details.
Tuesday evening May 29
• We begin with an open bar reception with hors d’oeuvres at the Millennium Bostonian Hotel followed by a presentation by Yale professor Murray Biggs of "Actors at Work - Exploring a Scene from Shakespeare."
• Dinner is on your own at the hotel or within walking distance at one of the many restaurants in and around the old Quincy Market now called the Faneuil Hall Marketplace.
Wednesday May 30
• In the morning we walk across the street for a panel discussion at historic Faneuil Hall on the ideas behind the American Revolution or a major foreign policy issue of the day. We have invited Henry Kissinger and hope he will participate.
• After lunch on our own at the Marketplace, we take a short bus ride to the Museum of Science.
• Our sense of self-importance will be challenged by a tour through the universe in the new planetarium at the Museum of Science, one of the most technologically advanced digital theaters in the world.
• Having been made to feel terribly insignificant, we will enjoy the wonders of the Earth at the Omni Theater’s “Amazing Journeys,” a film which follows the life-and-death dramas of five of the most incredible animal migrations.
• We return by bus to the hotel for some down-time and then migrate by foot or bus a short distance to the New England Aquarium overlooking Boston Harbor. There we enjoy the sharks, an open bar, hors d’oeuvres and a raw bar followed by a Coastal Clambake and lobster dinner.
Thursday May 31
• In the morning we bus to the Museum of Fine Arts for a docent-led tour of the new Art of the Americas wing and then a second tour, either docent led or on your own. Check your preference on the registration form.
• After lunch at the Museum, we gather in an auditorium there for a symposium on the Frontiers of Medicine, tapping into the resources of Boston's acclaimed medical community with some insight on what to expect from health care reform and some practical advice for 75 year old men.
• We return by bus to the hotel for some down time to relax or explore the Marketplace.
• It is a short distance by bus or by foot to the splendor of the Somerset Club, Boston’s grandest, where we will enjoy cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and dinner.
Friday, June 1
A good-bye continental breakfast will be served at the hotel.
The  1959 Whiffs will be invited to serenade us at the opening reception, the Aquarium and at dinner at the Somerset Club.
Day Boys Suite
There will be one or two suites at the hotel where Boston area attendees can relax in the afternoons before cocktails and dinner.

The cost of $775 per person includes all events, three open bars and two grand dinners in very special locations. If enough people sign up soon enough, we will add a catered lunch at the Museum of Fine Arts. The hotel is your own expense.
We strongly encourage you to register for the mini reunion online, its fast, easy and secure! To register go to http://tinyurl.com/1959-Boston-2012.
